My mother and I had lunch here. We ordered the lunch course. I had the hamburger, and my mother chose the beef stew. The crab croquettes were delicious. They were packed with crab meat. As expected from a long-established Western-style restaurant, the food was consistently good. The service was decent. We were able to enjoy a quiet and leisurely meal.
It was a high-class Western restaurant where I could dine with peace of mind. I had the more expensive course with various glasses of wine, and it came out to around 25,000 yen per person. It was delicious, but with all due respect, it wasn't exceptional, so some people might find it to be overpriced. The stew here is a meat dish, not a soup.
I visited Mikawaya with a friend for lunch while shopping in Ginza. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch course in an elegant atmosphere. Established in the Meiji era and operating as a French restaurant since shortly after World War II, Mikawaya is a long-established institution. The unchanging taste and service, as well as the refined space, create a tranquil and unhurried ambiance, allowing for a relaxing experience. For me, this place holds a special significance, as I have been coming here since before the current building was built, when I was a child accompanied by my mother. The lunch course, featuring corn potage soup, crab cream croquettes with salad, hamburger steak, dessert, and a drink, is a satisfying experience for 7400 yen. While there are many long-established Western restaurants in the Nihonbashi area, and I have visited many of them, Mikawaya is a particular favorite.
It might be a bit hard to find, even on Google Maps, as it's located in a narrow alleyway (between the new and old Mitsukoshi buildings, on the first floor of the new Mitsukoshi building). But it's definitely worth the effort. I came here for my partner's birthday. Every dish was above average, and the overall course was fantastic.
I used to visit this place frequently about 20 years ago, but haven't been back in a while. It was truly nostalgic to return. I ordered the appetizer I loved back then, and it was still delicious. I had a dinner reservation, so I couldn't enjoy everything this time, but I definitely want to come back again. The bread (with the blueberry jam, which was fantastic) and drinks were also excellent, of course.
