I had some errands to run in Shinjuku and was looking for a lunch spot around 11:30 am. I was wandering around when I stumbled upon this place! I went down the stairs of the Southern Tower. GINGER GRASS It was incredibly crowded even a little before 12:00 pm on a weekday. I was immediately seated at the counter, but it was full shortly after. I ordered the Autumn Com Aun Phu (¥1,496 including tax), which comes with soup and a drink. Com Aun Phu is a Vietnamese mixed rice dish. It includes autumn salmon, autumn mushrooms, lotus root, and herbs. I confirmed that it didn't have cucumber. I chose the iced Ginger Grass Tea for my drink. It's refillable. The restaurant's music was so loud it felt like a club. The staff's voices were also incredibly loud, and I sometimes jumped in surprise. (Maybe because my seat was right in front of the kitchen.) If you're sensitive to noise, I recommend the terrace seats. First came the drink. It's a great choice for lemongrass lovers. Then, the soup... or so I thought. Instead, a salad arrived, and it had cucumber! I said, "Excuse me, I can't eat cucumber." They replied, "We're so sorry!" It was someone else's salad. (lol) The soup had chicken mince, daikon radish, and other ingredients. It was a nice lemongrass and coriander soup. This was my first time trying Com Aun Phu. You mix it all together before eating. The salmon was flaked, and you could see the shiitake mushrooms and lotus root. I'm not familiar with the types of herbs, so I'll skip that part. They brought a separate dish of nuoc cham (fish sauce), and they said it was salty, so I should add it little by little... but I ended up adding it all in the end. It felt like a healthy mixed rice dish. The different herb flavors came through one after another, which was fun. It's called "Autumn," so I guess the ingredients change with the seasons. This is good. It's a bit noisy, and it seems like it gets full quickly during lunchtime, but I'd like to come back here again. I thought it was a hidden gem, but it seems like it's a popular restaurant.

The entrance is a bit hard to find, but the space feels like a hotel lounge in a Southeast Asian resort. Most of the staff are foreigners who only speak English, which adds to the authentic overseas experience in a good way. I went for lunch on a weekday, and there were many different sets with soup, salad, and drinks, making it hard to choose. I went with the Pad Thai this time, which had shrimp, squid, and scallops and was refined and delicious. However, depending on where you sit, the music in the restaurant can be quite loud, making it difficult to relax due to the noise from the staff and other customers. It was a shame that I couldn't fully unwind.

Located just a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, this restaurant offers ethnic cuisine with a slight Japanese twist. The interior boasts high ceilings and a stylish, trendy atmosphere, making it a popular spot for women. You'll also find a few foreign visitors here and there. The restaurant is always packed, so even if you request no cilantro, they sometimes forget. Both the Thai and Vietnamese dishes are delicious.

I recently visited Ginger Grass, an Asian restaurant in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The restaurant has a Bali resort-like atmosphere, and even though I arrived early, it was already quite popular with a waiting line. I ordered the crab fried rice and a tom yum soup with extra cilantro. The crab fried rice was light and slightly bland, making it easy to eat. The soup was spicy and complemented the fried rice perfectly. The tom yum soup was also piping hot and had a good level of spiciness. I ordered a lemonade, which had a beautiful purple hue. The food was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the resort-like ambiance made for a very enjoyable experience. Thank you for the delicious meal! I will definitely be back!
