Hot Spoon in Gotanda is a curry restaurant that has been recognized as one of the top 100 curry restaurants in Japan, with a rating exceeding 3.70. While this particular location doesn't have such a high score, it's still a popular curry shop that receives high praise, just like its Gotanda counterpart. "8-Hour Braised Beef Tendon Curry / ¥940" This time, I ordered the standard beef tendon curry. The spiciness levels are available in five options: mild, medium, spicy, very spicy, and extremely spicy. There's no additional charge for any of them, so I went with "spicy." The rice comes in four sizes: small, regular, large, and extra large, all at the same price. I opted for the large size, which is 340g (I actually just pressed the button on the vending machine). There's a free topping that changes daily, and on this day, it was spinach. Of course, I took advantage of the offer. Soon after the generously portioned rice arrived, a sizzling iron pot filled with bubbling curry made its grand entrance. The curry, with a slightly grainy texture, was generously coated with tender beef-like tendon, making it look incredibly delicious! It was steaming hot, but I carefully spooned it over the rice before taking a bite. More than half of the tender beef tendon retained its solid form, giving it the feel of a high-quality beef curry. The combination with the rice was simply divine. The spicy level was truly fiery, causing me to sweat and leaving a tingling sensation on my mouth and throat. It stimulated my taste buds and reached the very core of my enjoyment. I added the complimentary spinach to the rice and mixed it into the curry, creating a truly exquisite dish! Curry and spinach are such a perfect match. The rice, with each grain standing tall and glistening, had the perfect moisture content and was cooked to perfection. The 340g portion was quite substantial, leaving me completely full. But with such deliciousness, I could have easily devoured even the extra large size.

This curry specialty store is located in the bustling Shinjuku West Exit area. It's considered one of the famous curry shops in Shinjuku. Their signature dish is the beef tendon curry. The rich flavors of the vegetables and beef tendon create a deeply satisfying roux that appeals to Japanese palates. While you can choose the spice level, the roux has a natural sweetness, so even with spice, it remains a sweet and spicy curry. A must-try for curry lovers.

The Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) Curry with a rich flavor, medium spice level, and a large serving size, costs 1,050 yen. The hot curry allows you to enjoy the fun of arranging the curry and cutlet on your rice to your liking. It's also great that you can choose the spice level and rice quantity when ordering. Definitely a place I'd revisit.

This curry with beef tendon simmered for 8 hours was so tempting, with its soft-boiled egg, cheese, and vegetables. But this time, I went for the seasonal eggplant and mushroom beef tendon curry with brown rice. It was absolutely delicious! 😊 You can choose your curry, rice, and spice level when you purchase your ticket.
