It was time for the dreaded blood test, and I swear, they couldn't find my veins. They were completely guessing. "Do you usually go around here?" they asked. I had no idea! "Is it okay if I try around here?" Again, no idea! Are you kidding me?! I was too scared to look, so I had no idea! "It seems like I got it right..." Thankfully, it turned out okay, but what if they had missed? Blood tests are just terrifying. Anyway, every year I'm told I need to lose weight, but on my way back from the checkup, I had a mission: to devour meat. This is a famous place where you can get a "meat mountain." A roast pork, a meaty mountain. A meaty soul. The size of the mountain changes depending on how many grams you order. Hiyoriyama 200g Takao Mountain 270g Kumotori Mountain 350g Mount Fuji 450g Matterhorn 700g Kilimanjaro 1,000g Normally, 270g would be enough for me, but as a Japanese man, I had to climb Mount Fuji. The sheer power of the massive meat arriving at the table is truly Mt. Fuji. It's shoulder roast, so it has a nice chewiness to the red meat and a juicy fat content, a perfect balance. It's beautiful. Even with this amount of meat, there's a lineup of condiments on the table: wasabi, yuzu pepper, rock salt, mustard, oyster sauce, furikake, and more. You'll never get bored with this meal. The rice and soup are also refillable! Is this heaven? It's right in the middle of the business district, so by 12:00 PM, there's a line that stretches as far as the eye can see. But at 11:30 AM, I was able to get in without waiting. You can make reservations for lunch, so I highly recommend it. By the way, I've climbed Mount Fuji about five times. During the climb, I keep thinking, "I'm never coming back here again!" It's so tough. But when you reach the summit and see the sunrise and the sea of clouds, all those thoughts disappear. It's so fulfilling, I get tears in my eyes. A while back, there was a story about a venture company CEO who made his new employees climb Mount Fuji as part of their training. It was a big topic, some people called it black company behavior. While I think forcing people to climb is a bit much, the feeling of accomplishment is truly something else. And the bond you build with your team after sharing that experience is definitely strong. But maybe I'm just an old man rambling now. Anyway, thank you for the meal. #TokyoGourmet #MalloryPorkSteakOtemachi #MalloryPorkSteak #PorkSteak #ShoulderRoastSteak #OtemachiLunch #OtemachiGourmet
I was craving a hearty meat meal, so I decided to visit Mallory Pork Steak. The restaurant has different opening hours depending on the day of the week, and on Saturdays, it opens at 11:00 AM. I arrived around 11:20 AM, and already more than half of the seats were filled. Ordering is done through a QR code, which is becoming increasingly common these days. The menu mainly features pork steak, with additional options for sides, set menus, and drinks. This streamlined approach resulted in a very quick service time. I ordered the Takao Mountain Pork Steak with truffle butter and pickles. The portion size was just right for me, and while the meat wasn't exceptionally tender, it was free of any gristle and quite tasty. The truffle butter, which is an extra charge, had a wonderful aroma. In addition to the original sauce served with the meat, there were also rock salt, pepper, grain mustard, yuzu pepper, wasabi, and soy sauce available, allowing me to enjoy the meat in various ways and prevent it from becoming monotonous. The pickles included onions, broccoli, and turnips, and had a mild acidity. The mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach that came as sides were decent. Lastly, the restaurant is directly connected to the Otemachi Underground Passage, albeit a bit of a walk, making it a convenient option even on rainy days.
I visited on a Saturday for lunch. I made a reservation online beforehand, and since many other restaurants in the office district were closed, I was able to enter smoothly. There was only one type of meat available, with different menu names depending on the weight (grams). I ordered the second from the bottom (Takao-san), and my companion ordered the third from the bottom. The portions were larger than they looked, so it was good that we didn't order the biggest size. Rice and soup were self-service, and lunch had a 60-minute time limit, so we couldn't linger too long, but the meat was delicious.
【Savor a Chunk of Meat 😋】 I'd been wanting to try this pork steak specialty shop for a while. It was lunchtime on a weekday, so there was a line, but the turnover was fast, and I was seated quickly. This time, I ordered the smallest size (still 200g) "Kohidayama" with the rice, salad, and soup set. During lunchtime, rice and soup are free refills! Considering that, it's quite a good deal. The pork steak probably wasn't freshly cooked. That's understandable during busy hours. It was surprisingly mostly lean, and the grilled finish was light and moist, making it delicious 😋. In addition to the accompanying sauce, there were plenty of flavor-changing items on the table, including wasabi, yuzu pepper, soy sauce, mustard, rock salt, and black pepper, which was nice. I'd like to come back for dinner.
Mallory Pork opened in Jiyugaoka. They launched a crowdfunding campaign to expand their stores. For a few thousand yen, they offered free tickets as a reward. I've been a customer since then, but this was my first visit to the Otemachi branch. The early stores were cramped counter-style places, like a standing soba noodle shop, but this one is spacious and comfortable, like a high-end restaurant. However, because there are always lines, you're told at the start that your dining time is limited to 60 minutes. It's located in the basement of a building on the moat side, directly connected to the C6 exit of the Otemachi Station on the Chiyoda Line. I ordered the "Mount Fuji" size, and the roast pork was like the rocky surface of a volcano. It had a massive presence, like the exposed peaks of Mount Yakedake and Mount Tsurugi. What sets this place apart from ordinary steak houses is its pursuit of the "beauty of the whole piece." I've never regretted eating pork steak anywhere else. I always come back here.
