My wife and I visited at 6:30 PM. We went to the first basement level, which has a chandelier, but it was fully booked with reservations. We were told to go to the second basement level. The bar area on the second basement level was quiet and chic. We were seated at the counter. This floor had about 7 seats at the counter and 10 seats at tables. From 5 PM to 7 PM, it was happy hour, and some drinks were slightly discounted. I had the following drinks, with prices including tax: * Gin and Tonic @ ¥550 (happy hour price) * Vodka Tonic @ ¥1,430 * Mojito @ ¥1,430 x 2 We only had simple cocktails, and I thought they were all consistently good and met expectations. We also had the following light meals: * Marbled Beef, Regular ¥2,970 * Mixed Cheese, Regular ¥1,540 (including tax) This included four types of cheese: cream, washed rind, blue, and camembert. Both were delicious. I thought a simple red wine would have paired better with the food than the sodas and tonic-based cocktails. Jazz music was playing in the store. The bartender was also very attentive. The bill came to about ¥12,000 for two people. I thought it was a comfortable bar with delicious light meals. Thank you for the meal.
If you're expecting a quiet bar, you'll be surprised, for better or worse. It's more of a lively social scene. There's a basement level and a lower basement level, with the former being brighter and the latter being dimly lit. The main area seems to be on the basement level, so I'd recommend going there if possible. On the lower basement level, I saw a staff member eating a bowl of納豆 (fermented soybeans) at the counter during their break. In any case, it seems like a place to enjoy whiskey, not the atmosphere.
I recently visited Suntory Lounge Eagle in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It's a classic bar with a fantastic atmosphere. The entrance is down a flight of stairs to the basement level, and the actual bar is on the second basement level, making the ceiling incredibly high! It has a retro Showa era, bubble-era vibe. I went in the evening, and it was packed with customers. The drinks were great, and the duck liver pâté is apparently a specialty here, and it was delicious. I couldn't eat much since it was my second stop, but the atmosphere was fantastic. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
We had a wonderful evening with friends, enjoying delicious drinks, elegant snacks, and a fantastic bartender. The cocktails were made to order based on our desired alcohol content and flavor profile, which was a fun way to explore new tastes. We each had two drinks and ordered a few snacks, totaling around 10,000 yen. This is the place I'd choose for a relaxed conversation with someone in a nice atmosphere.
This is a must-visit authentic bar in Shinjuku, owned by Suntory. It's an absolute gem, with a Showa-era interior that deserves to be preserved as a cultural heritage of Shinjuku. These days, Showa-era cafes and such are slowly disappearing. I came here with a friend who doesn't drink much, so we deviated from our usual routine and ordered a mojito first. The well-trained bartender served us a textbook-perfect cocktail. For our second drink, we had the usual martini. This one too, was a strong style, with the perfect glass and recipe. The cocktails are consistently high quality, and the atmosphere, combined with the interior, makes for a wonderful experience. Prices have gone up a bit in recent years due to the general rise in prices, but they're still reasonable. Some people might be disappointed if they expect the old prices, but the drinks in this space are truly special. I'll definitely be back.
