Koko Head Cafe, a renowned establishment from Hawaii, has made its debut in Japan. Helmed by a celebrated chef from New York, this Honolulu cafe, known for its long queues, has finally arrived in Japan! Located on the 7th floor of the Shin-Marunouchi Building, a landmark in the Marunouchi area, it opened its doors in April 2023. Just a 3-minute walk from Tokyo Station, the cafe boasts a spacious interior with high ceilings. The open space features glass walls, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The cafe offers a variety of seating options, including open tables, counter seats with a view of the kitchen, stylish bar counter seats, and a terrace with panoramic views of the Tokyo Station area. I ordered the following: * Coco Moco (with salad and drink) * Frozen Cocktail: Mango Sunset The Coco Moco, served on a sizzling skillet, was visually appealing and tantalized my taste buds. The signature mushroom gravy sauce, rich and buttery, perfectly complemented the juicy, 100% domestic beef patty. Each bite released a burst of savory flavor. The garlicky rice, seasoned with salt, had a delightful crispy crust. The runny, half-cooked egg yolk added a creamy touch to the Coco Moco. The unique kimchi tempura was a delightful surprise. Crispy and freshly fried, it had a subtle tanginess and spiciness that was addictive. I opted for the non-alcoholic Mango Sunset. The frozen pineapple, lemon, coconut milk, and mango combined to create a refreshingly sweet and tangy tropical flavor. This dessert-like cocktail was absolutely delicious. The cafe had a lively atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. With a diverse menu, Koko Head Cafe offers something for everyone, whether you're looking for lunch, a coffee break, or dinner. The nighttime view from the terrace is absolutely breathtaking.
The kimchi tempura was delicious! ✨ I ordered the loco moco. The gravy sauce and hamburger were decent, but the kimchi tempura was absolutely amazing. It was a real revelation! Eating the tempura with the gravy boosted the flavor by 30%! ✨ Next time, I want to try their classic cornflake French toast. 😆
I visited for lunch during work. I had the recommended Coco Moco on the terrace. The view from the seat right in front of Tokyo Station was great and it felt good. Although it's also a cafe, personally, I felt the food was a bit like a food court for the price. That said, it was still delicious. I recommend it if you're visiting as a tourist.
I arrived at a little past 11 am on a weekday. The restaurant was still relatively empty, so I was able to get a seat right away. The terrace seating was for two people or more, so I sat at the counter. The loco moco was the most popular dish, but I was in the mood for fish, so I ordered the salmon and egg dish. Hmm, it was flavorless. I could only taste a hint of salt on the fish, and the egg and spinach inside were also bland. Honestly, it was so underwhelming that I was disappointed. I was looking forward to it, and it cost 1800 yen, so I tried my best to finish it, but I left about a third of it. The iced tea was very delicious. Most popular cafes in Hawaii usually have good food, so maybe I just picked the wrong menu item. I want to try a different dish and come back again.
The view of Tokyo Station at night from the terrace seating is amazing, and the food is reasonably priced for this location. I had made a reservation, but was told that reservations are canceled for terrace seating, so I canceled my reservation and ate on the terrace. It's like a food court, where you order and pay, receive a number tag, wait at your table, and then are called when your food is ready to pick it up yourself. The cutlery was plastic. I had the "Ohayou Egg," which is an egg, cheese, bonito flakes, and cream dish that looks like okonomiyaki. It was pretty good. For dessert, I had a caramel canelé with ice cream, which was delicious! The drinks were also pretty good. The terrace door was very heavy, and I couldn't open it by myself with my food. The service and system of the restaurant are a bit mediocre, but I'm satisfied with the price for this location. It might be good for a casual girls' night out. There were also quite a few men on the terrace.
