I visited Demerara Bakery, located within Shinjuku Station. I went there around 1 p.m. on a weekend, and there was no line, so I was able to buy some right away! I got a plain scone, an Earl Grey scone, and the scone of the month, which was black sugar chocolate walnut. All of them were small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, but they had a substantial presence. I ate them right away after buying them. First, the plain scone was simple, but the crispy exterior and moist interior were a perfect combination, highlighting the natural flavors of the ingredients. Toasting it lightly and adding butter enhanced the buttery flavor, which further brought out the sweetness of the dough, creating a simple yet luxurious taste. The Earl Grey scone had a rich tea aroma that filled my mouth, with a subtle bitterness that lingered, a sophisticated flavor for adults. Toasting it and adding butter also enhanced the toasty aroma and further brought out the tea flavor. It's perfect for tea time. Finally, the scone of the month, black sugar chocolate walnut. The deep sweetness of the black sugar, the rich flavor of the chocolate, and the nutty aroma of the walnuts were a perfect match. The warmth of the freshly baked scone further enhanced the black sugar flavor. All the scones were delicious, with rich flavors and textures that unfolded with each bite, simply by toasting them lightly and adding butter. The convenience of being located within Shinjuku Station makes it even better, so I'll definitely go back to buy more. Thank you for the delicious meal!
It can only be purchased within the station. It costs 285 yen per piece. It's quite large and one piece is enough to fill you up. The taste was a bit bland and dry, so I thought it would be better with jam. If you're looking for a scone on its own, other shops are much better. It says it can be kept at room temperature for 3 days and refrigerated for 2 weeks. I'm thinking of buying it again to see if my taste was right.
I had plans after my purchase, so I couldn't buy the refrigerated clotted cream. It's located inside the JR station, so it's convenient for JR users, but it's a bit inconvenient for those using other lines. I didn't experience any of the bad customer service mentioned in other reviews. Given its location, I think speed is what's expected, and they were smooth in that regard. I ate them the next day without reheating. Plain: It would be better with jam or clotted cream. Earl Grey: The aroma isn't too strong, so it's not too overwhelming. Walnut Banana: This flavor would be better in a muffin than a scone. Matcha White Chocolate Almond: The matcha flavor is weak, or rather, the overall flavor is weak. Lemon Cranberry: The amount of fruit is just right, and it's my favorite. They seem to change the flavors seasonally, so I'd like to try other flavors if I have the chance. Weekend, May 2024, evening.
This is a scone specialty store located in the NEWoMan ekinaka (station building) at Shinjuku Station. They offer a set of three scones of your choice and clotted cream for 1100 yen, so I purchased three: strawberry pistachio, walnut raisin, and plain. I split the scones in half and warmed them in a toaster, being careful not to burn them, then topped them with clotted cream. They were perfect with tea and absolutely delicious.
Plain 285 yen (tax included) Walnut Banana 285 yen (tax included) Lemon Cranberry 285 yen (tax included) ◆Yuzu Honey Slightly sweet with a light yuzu aroma and buttery flavor. The staff mentioned that it tastes better warmed up. They were right, the butter melts beautifully when warmed up, making it even more delicious. However, it's still quite tasty even without warming it up. It's definitely a flavor that women would enjoy. I'll definitely buy it again if I have the chance. Thanks for the treat.
