The pork bowl (with cutlet curry) was around ¥1250. The shrimp fry was around ¥550. I went there before noon and there was no wait. I was thinking of getting the pork cutlet, but everyone else was having the pork bowl, so I ordered that. The bowl was relatively small, the curry was thick, and the cutlet had three pieces with sauce, but it could have used more. The bowl was small, making it difficult to eat, so I wasn't impressed. The thick curry made it easy to separate the food, but honestly, I didn't find the cutlet particularly delicious. The pork cutlet set was ¥2000, and since I went during lunch, the pork bowl was ¥1250, so most people ordered that. Maybe the pork cutlet set would have been better. However, the cutlet was tender, had no odor, and was so soft it could be cut with a spoon. It was easy to chew, but it was also quite bland. Half of the customers were women, so it might be a comfortable place for women to eat. One thing I found a bit disappointing was that the staff kept hovering around and clearing the dishes quickly, making me feel rushed. The shrimp fry was plump and delicious, no complaints. Many people ordered pork soup, so it might be a must-order to go with the meal.
I arrived at the restaurant around 5:30 PM on Sunday, and it was almost full (I managed to get a table without waiting in line). I ordered the "Ton Don", which is essentially a katsu curry. It arrived in a large rice bowl, not a donburi. (I'm not a discerning eater, so) I think it was pork cutlet, with three large pieces. It was tender, so soft you could cut it with a spoon. I'm guessing it was tonkatsu, because it was topped with a thick brown sauce (?). It would be a deal-breaker for anyone who doesn't like brown sauce on their curry. The curry itself was probably the owner's special recipe, as they call the regular curry "Indian Curry." It had a thick consistency, but the flavor was closer to an Indian chicken curry. I was craving a classic katsu curry (with Japanese-style sauce and loin cutlet) and I'm not a fan of brown sauce, so I'm giving it 3 stars, sorry.
A long-established restaurant founded in 1921. It's always crowded, so I thought it must be a popular place. This time, I happened to pass by and there was no line, so I decided to go in. It turned out to be a great place! The menu had a tonkatsu set, an ebi fry set, a tonkatsu donburi, and a katsu curry. They also had a katsu sandwich. There were also some single items for snacking while drinking. The ebi fry set was tempting, but since it was my first time, I ordered the tonkatsu set. A cute old lady was working hard. She was very kind and made me feel at ease. The other staff were also very nice. I wonder if it's a family business? I wasn't sure. The tonkatsu set was delicious, but I really liked the warm and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant in the middle of Shinjuku. It felt very homey.
【Shinjuku Sanchome】 Located just off the main street, next to Gandhi, if you head towards Isetan from Shinjuku Station. It was Thursday at 12:30, and about half the tables and counter seats were empty. There seems to be a second floor, but I'm not sure about the situation there. I ordered the Ton Don, which is essentially a katsu curry, but it seems like miso soup isn't included. It took about 15 minutes for my order to arrive. The kitchen seemed pretty empty, but it took over 5 minutes for them to start frying the cutlet. The curry was served in a small bowl, with a round cutlet of pork loin on top, already covered in sauce. It was a pretty heavy dish. The rice portion was a bit small, though.
Ouroji Ton Don + Ebi Fry + Kushi Ton Ton Don, a name that sounds like a pork cutlet curry. The appearance is impressive and interesting. It's a mysterious pork cutlet that looks like deep-fried minced meat. It's more like a minced pork cutlet. I guess there are different tastes including curry. Thank you very much.
