I found this Cinnabon, a wildly popular American dessert, right here in Japan. It seems like this Cinnabon is scientifically designed to hit the human pleasure center, making it impossible not to find it delicious. It was featured in the book "Goodbye to Overeating" by the former FDA commissioner. The book explains that combining "high sugar" and "high fat" in an easy-to-eat form tricks the brain into thinking it's delicious, even when you're full.
Located a 3-minute walk from Kinshicho Station, on the first floor of the Marui department store, this cinnamon roll specialty shop was a takeout-only establishment with no seating available. Known for its overly sweet flavor and high calorie count that could lead to a one-way ticket to metabolic syndrome, it was, after all, an American creation from Seattle. The unique flavor of "Makara cinnamon," a variety cultivated specifically for this product, combined with the dense, heavy dough that lacked any lightness, made it a truly unique gem in the vast world of desserts... until it closed down. A shame.
First-time purchase. I bought a 2-pack of the regular size combo for 980 yen. It's quite heavy and the packaging is cute! It's said to last for a month when frozen, so I think it would be a good gift. I warmed it up in the microwave and it was delicious! The cinnamon roll's signature scent and sweetness are great. The regular size is big, so we split it in half between two people. The classic regular size has 870 calories per roll, so it's delicious but be careful not to overeat! I want to try other flavors too.
On my way home, I treated myself to a Caramel Apple Minibon from @cinnabon_japan as a sweet reward. The caramel-flavored apple with chunks of fruit was so delicious, it was a revelation! I warmed it up a bit and enjoyed its fluffy texture.
Payment is by cash or card only. This cinnamon roll is incredibly sweet. It's definitely an acquired taste, but I personally love it. It's a calorie bomb that wouldn't be approved by any Japanese company for their meetings, but it's addictive like McDonald's fries, and I crave it sometimes. **Update on September 18, 2022:** I buy one at least once a month. They've been raising the price gradually. The price increase is fine, but they've also replaced the whole pecan nuts with chopped ones, and the amount of topping has decreased. It used to be whole nuts... The menu photo still shows whole nuts, so I'm a little confused. Also, I bought one at 7:30 PM from a store that closes at 8 PM, and they sold me one with an expiration date of the same day. Was it organic or something? It's full of additives, but it doesn't last long. Maybe it's not selling well... It's not cheap, so I think they should stop selling the same-day expiration ones in the afternoon or offer a discount. Just a thought.
