Located in the east exit of Shinjuku Station, on the B1F of Lumine Est Shinjuku, this cafe has been recognized as one of the top 100 cafes on Tabelog. It offers both table seating and a standing counter, making it perfect for solo drinkers. There are a few requests from the shop, such as wearing a mask or covering your mouth with a handkerchief when ordering, a maximum of two people per table, a 30-minute time limit, and no entry for those who have already been drinking. I arrived around 2:00 PM on a Saturday and waited for about 15 minutes. I ordered the Hot Dog Brunch Beer Set for ¥946, which comes with potato salad, corn, lettuce, and a boiled egg. The hot dog was delicious even without any condiments. The bread was chewy and the sausage was crispy. With a 30-minute time limit, this is a great place for a quick drink.
BERG in Shinjuku This is a cafe in Shinjuku. <Order> 【Hot Dog Brunch】: 605 yen + Quattro Cheese Dog Change: 110 yen <Memo> I stopped by this place on a whim for lunch after a doctor's appointment in Shinjuku. I visited around 1:00 PM on a Sunday in October 2024, and the place was packed. • Hot Dog Brunch A set consisting of a Berg Dog, salad, free-range egg, and hot coffee or organic tea. This time, I changed the Berg Dog to a Quattro Cheese Dog and chose hot coffee for my drink. ◯ Quattro Cheese Dog The dog is a simple combination of bread dough, Bergwurst, and quattro cheese. The Bergwurst, which is sandwiched between everything, is said to have won a gold medal at the IFFA Ham and Sausage Contest held in Germany. The texture that pops when you bite into it and the sweet fat that spreads out are the best, and the rich, dense quattro cheese that clings to it is irresistible... It's also quite large in size, so it's satisfying to eat and a very delicious hot dog at a great price! ◯ Salad Consists of potato salad, lettuce, and corn. The potato salad is a carrot-type with a low water content. It's packed tightly, so it's satisfying to eat and has a slightly sweet flavor that's very delicious! ◯ Free-Range Egg Served with a boiled egg cut in half. I sprinkled a little salt from the salt shaker that was on the order counter. As the name suggests, it's a classic boiled egg with a rich flavor that goes well with the brunch set! ◯ Hot Coffee Coffee made with a Cimbali espresso automatic machine. The bitterness and acidity are subdued, and it's a cup with a strong flavor. It's the kind of flavor you want to drink when you wake up in the morning. It goes well with the brunch set, and it feels like you're having a morning coffee at a cafe, which is great! The shop is located just a short walk from the JR Shinjuku Station East Exit. Go straight underground towards Lumine Est Shinjuku without going up to the ground floor, and the shop is located on the right side of the FOOD POCKET that you'll see on your left. The interior is a bit nostalgic, with snacks and sweets scattered around, and it's a space that feels full of history. The paintings on the walls and the hanging trinkets are cute and stylish... There are 17 standing counter seats, 1 four-seater table, and 12 two-seater tables, for a total of 45 seats. The clientele is a mix of solo diners, couples, friends, and so on, with a wide range of uses, from lunch to casual drinks and waiting for trains. The age range is from 20s to 70s, and as a shop with a history dating back to 1990, it seems to be supported and loved by people of all ages. This was my first visit, but I thought it was a good place to grab a quick meal and it's close to the station, so it's convenient for when you're short on time but want to eat something. I'll definitely stop by again! It was delicious, thank you for the meal (*´◒`*)
This cafe is located in the station building, just a short walk from the Marunouchi Line platform that I use every day when I go to work. I happened to notice a sign for their curry lunch and decided to give it a try. It was before my late shift, so it was earlier than the typical lunch hour, but there were no tables available, so I ended up at the standing counter. They also offer a morning menu, so it's popular from early in the day. What I had that day (excluding tax): - South Seas Spicy Chicken, Vegetable, and Bean Curry - ¥630 I paid first and then received my order quickly. They have a coffee set, but I opted for just the curry. The curry was flavorful with a good kick of spice. The pickles were a nice touch. It wasn't a huge portion, so it's perfect for a light meal or for women. They have a good selection of alcoholic beverages, so you can enjoy a midday drink. It's a bit chaotic, which adds to its charm. I usually avoid standing counters, but this one had an interesting vibe that I enjoyed. It's a good option if you want to grab a quick bite and head out. They're open from early morning until late, so it's very convenient.
I had breakfast here. The coffee wasn't very good, so I probably won't come back for breakfast again. However, while I was eating, I saw a very delicious-looking hot dog on the menu, so I'll come back to try that next time. Despite the somewhat awkward entrance, everyone inside was relaxed, listening to music, watching videos, studying, or chatting. The staff seemed busy, but they were actually very calm and attentive. This place might be perfect for a solo beer and ham session... It's a great place.
This is a legendary establishment in the labyrinthine Shinjuku district, known for its strong convictions. To be honest, there was a time when it was difficult to openly express my fondness for this place due to the backlash against its temporary closure and the ongoing debate surrounding smoking in restaurants. The restaurant is located in a hard-to-find basement, with a narrow space where the goods section, entrance, kitchen, and register are all integrated, reminiscent of an old-fashioned coffee shop with a large number of standing tables. The display of photographs inside, under the guise of a photo exhibition, also contributes to its underground atmosphere from the 1980s and earlier. In the past, smoking was commonplace here, adding to its unique character (although it has reluctantly become completely smoke-free, which I, as a non-smoker, am very happy about). A notable feature is its organic, simple food and its extensive selection of Hitachino Nest Beer, introduced very early on. The coffee, with its strong, bitter taste, is also characteristic of a place that used to serve tobacco. The Meister hot dog and bacon dog, with their simple yet meticulously crafted ingredients, are described in detail on the menu, and the curry, while light, is also delicious. On the other hand, some might find the dishes too bland. The place retains its charm, attracting those who appreciate its unique atmosphere. During my student days, I often found myself drawn to its rebellious spirit, its defiance against the building's owner, a spirit that resonated with my own rebellious nature. Ah, the youthful spirit... When smoking was allowed, the Meister bacon dog was a must-try takeaway, but now I recommend trying the curry inside. While it has mellowed somewhat since then, its core spirit and values remain unchanged. If you find yourself in Shinjuku, I encourage you to visit this place, despite the mixed opinions it evokes. I plan to upload photos, including some older ones, for posterity, whenever I get around to it.
