It was my first time in Shinjuku in a while, so I decided to visit "Okano Eizen" in the Shinjuku Takashimaya store, which I haven't been able to visit in Toranomon for a long time. ^^ It's located in the B1 Japanese confectionery specialty store area. ^ ^ The store itself has a very luxurious feel! ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ Of course, when you think of Okano, you think of their bean mochi (豆大福) (๑・̑◡・̑๑) So, I decided to get their classic bean mochi and chestnut bun to take home. ♪ Since I didn't buy enough for the family, I stopped by Doutor on my way home and enjoyed them with an iced coffee. ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ The chestnut bun had a large chestnut inside and wasn't too sweet, making it delicious. ^ ^ Now, the bean mochi was a surprise! It was so big! The side view was amazing! The flavor was also elegant, with a generous amount of sweet bean paste and a chewy mochi skin. (๑>◡
Hello! I'm Harapecchan, always hungry! ————Store Details———————————— Store Name: Okanoeisen Nearest Station: 4-minute walk from Shinjuku Station Address: 〒151-8580 5-24-2, Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Takashimaya B1F Business Hours: 10:30 AM - 7:30 PM Closed: None Budget: ~¥1000 ———————————————————— This time, I went to Okanoeisen, a long-established Japanese confectionery store founded in 1912 in Tokyo's downtown area and now located in Toranomon, which is a 4-minute walk from Shinjuku Station and located in Takashimaya B1F, where many delicious gourmet foods gather! They have been preserving the same taste for all these years, and as soon as they open, people from all walks of life line up for the taste of this famous store. Especially their signature product, "Mame Daifuku," is so popular that it sells out by noon even on weekdays. It was sold out when I went. The staff told me that it usually sells out around 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. I'll have to try again! Okanoeisen's Japanese confectionery is made with meticulous attention to ingredients and traditional methods. They use high-quality premium Miyagi rice, and their azuki beans and red peas are sourced from Hokkaido. Their signature Mame Daifuku, which is considered the original, has a refined sweetness and a very fine-grained azuki bean paste. Besides Mame Daifuku, they also have Dorayaki with a fluffy texture and a sweet bean paste filling, Kuri Manju that brings out the best of the chestnut flavor, and Cha Manju. Each confectionery uses a different type of bean paste filling, so I wanted to try them all. Menu I ordered this time 【Kuri Manju】 I was surprised by how heavy it was when I held it. When I cut it open, there was a whole chestnut inside! Underneath the thin skin, there was a generous amount of white bean paste made with large "Ootebou" white kidney beans grown in Hokkaido. It was heavy and satisfying. The chestnut was slightly sweet and went perfectly with the white bean paste! 【Higashi Manju】 This was a Japanese confectionery where you could really taste the aroma and flavor of the azuki beans. The azuki bean paste, which was kneaded firmly, had a slightly chewy texture and a subtle sweetness. The walnuts on top were fragrant and had a wonderful flavor. The Manju were so delicious that I want to try again next time to get the Mame Daifuku. Harapecchan is full again this time! Thank you for the meal.
I arrived before the store opened, thinking they wouldn't have any left if I didn't. It was a while since I'd been to a department store opening, and the atmosphere of being one of the first customers is always a bit nerve-wracking, haha. ◆ Bean Daifuku ¥280 ◆ Higashi Manju ¥230 The Bean Daifuku was so soft from the moment I held it. It was packed with large beans and smooth red bean paste, and it was absolutely delicious! The sweetness and saltiness were perfectly balanced. It's best eaten on the day you buy it, so it's not really suitable for gifts... The Higashi Manju had a walnut in the center, and the thin skin contained a generous amount of red bean paste. It was so delicious, I was surprised! I definitely want to buy this again.
The chestnut bun is heavy and substantial, with a moist homemade white bean paste and large chestnut pieces inside. It's a satisfying bun that's truly delicious. ✨ The sweetness is just right, and the warm, chewy texture of the chestnut is irresistible. ✨ The "Higashi Mantou" also has a refined sweetness from the black honey bean paste, and it's topped with walnuts. ✨ The firm bean paste and walnuts complement each other perfectly. ✨ The mochi has a slightly firm, fragrant skin and a similarly firm bean paste with a rich sweetness. ✨ It's also shaped like a small gold coin, making it easy to eat. ✨ Unfortunately, the famous bean-filled daifuku was sold out. These sweet Japanese treats, enjoyed with a slightly bitter tea, were a comforting and delicious experience. ✨
Boxes were stacked, with signs advertising dorayaki and waffles. Hmm, it seems they only sell them on certain days of the week. I saw a sign that said "Saturday Waffles" so I asked about them, but they were sold out. (;∀;) I bought a Higashi Mantou for 230 yen. It had a simple flavor with a dense, sweet bean paste filling. The walnuts were a nice touch.
