This restaurant is famous for its Hayashi rice. It's a place where people of all ages can easily dine, and the interior is bustling with customers, from solo diners to families. I think it's appealing that you can watch the trains coming and going from Tokyo Station while you eat from the window seats. The menu features Hayashi rice as its main dish, along with curry and other options, and I enjoyed the wide variety of desserts. A downside is that the staff gets flustered when the restaurant gets crowded. It's a bit startling when they walk briskly past your table. Considering the atmosphere of the restaurant, I think a more composed service would be desirable. Depending on the time, there may be time limits for your visit, so those who want to take their time should check the information in advance.
I visited on a weekday afternoon and had to wait a bit. My partner ordered the Bungo Cream Soda and lemon cake, while I had the tea and rare cheesecake set. The interior was clean and the tables were spaced well, making it comfortable. If you get a seat by the window, you can look down at Tokyo Station, which might be nice for train enthusiasts. The staff were efficient and helpful. The tea had a mild, easy-to-drink flavor. The cakes were just okay.
This cafe is located on the 3rd floor of Maruzen Nihonbashi. I went to try the "Hayashi Rice," which was created by the founder of Maruzen, Yuteki Hayashi. The lunch menu, which includes a salad and a drink, is ¥1,580. "Hayashi Rice" is written as such, but pronounced "Hayashi Rice." This means that this restaurant is the originator of Hayashi Rice. The sweetness of the onions, which must have been simmered for a long time, creates a very deep flavor. The "Hayashi Rice" is served on a retro, elegant plate with a gold rim. As I was eating it, I thought the atmosphere seemed familiar, and then I realized! I suspect that the Hayashi Rice from the Niigata restaurant featured in the NHK morning drama "Tora ni Tsubasa" was almost certainly an homage to this restaurant. The after-meal coffee was also delicious, with a nostalgic and gentle flavor.
It was my first time visiting. I was seated at a window seat. The sky reflected off the buildings outside, which looked beautiful because the weather was nice. You can also see the trains well, so I think it's especially recommended if you like trains and want to take a break. The staff not only refilled my water frequently but also wiped down the table when it got wet from condensation, and I was happy with their attentive service. It was quite lively at 2 PM on a weekday, so I'd like to come again when it's a bit quieter.
📍 M&C Cafe Marunouchi Oazo Original "Hayashi Rice"! The roux has a rich flavor♪ [Nearest Station] JR Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Exit → 2-minute walk ※ Marunouchi Oazo 4F "M&C CAFE" is a collaboration cafe with the long-established bookstore "Maruzen," which has a history of 140 years. This is where you can eat the [Original Hayashi Rice], said to have been devised by Yuteki Hayashi, the founder of Maruzen. The shop is located on the 4th floor of Oazo, behind the Maruzen bookstore. I visited around 7:30 PM on a weekday without a reservation, and there were only about 6 groups of customers, so I was able to get in right away. The cafe has 68 seats, so it's spacious, and it might be easy to get in without a reservation. I was seated by the window, and the view of the streets of Marunouchi below, with people coming and going, was quite open and nice. I was excited to eat the original Hayashi Rice, and I was also surprised that Hayashi is written as "早矢仕"! After learning a bit of history, I decided to enjoy the taste! [Today's Order] ※ All prices include tax ◉ Steak Hayashi Rice ¥2,500- ◉ Soup Set ¥500- ◉ Drink Set ¥450- ▶︎▶︎▶︎ I was debating whether to get the regular Hayashi Rice with fluffy eggs, but this time I chose the visually luxurious Steak Hayashi. The roux has a very rich and deep flavor that is appealing. First, when you take a bite, the acidity and sweetness of the tomatoes spread in a balanced way. Furthermore, you can feel the richness and umami of the demi-glace sauce, which gives depth to the overall flavor. The aroma of butter and red wine wafts gently, and you can enjoy the complex flavors, which is delicious♪ However,,,, one disappointing point,,,, the meat was overcooked and too tough,,,, If it weren't for that, it would have been perfect... ◉ Lemon Cake ¥880- ▶︎▶︎▶︎ The jelly using a lemon container is refreshing in both appearance and taste. It's filled with jelly, and topped with lemon mousse. The natural aroma and flavor of the lemon blend well with the jelly and mousse, and you can enjoy it until the end without getting tired. It was a special dessert that I would definitely want to eat again ^ ^ Thank you for the meal! Phew~.
