I went to Shigemori Eishindo, known for their Ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes)! It's located right near Suitengumae Station and is a long-established shop, founded in 1917, with over 100 years of history. The shop always seems to have a line. Many office workers were also in line, buying a lot. Probably for gifts. The staff are quick at issuing receipts. They're used to it. The Ningyo-yaki are made in the likeness of the Seven Lucky Gods. You can't choose which god you get💦 I had the staff pick for me. Ningyo-yaki are 140 yen each. 'Tsubo-yaki' (pot-shaped cakes) are 180 yen each. Castella cakes are 35 yen each. Hmm‼️ I was worried if they took credit cards⁉️ But they did. I was happy. I ate them when I got home. The Ningyo-yaki are filled with plenty of smooth red bean paste. The 'Tsubo-yaki' are filled with plenty of chunky red bean paste. The Castella cake is subtly sweet and only 35 yen. The wrapping paper is also nice, reflecting the shop's long history. Shigemori's Ningyo-yaki are a must-buy souvenir if you visit Suitengu Shrine.

Date of Visit: January 2021 A ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped pancake) shop in Ningyocho. It's located about a 2-minute walk from Ningyocho Station. While watching the DVD of the movie "The Crimes That Bind" based on the novel by Keigo Higashino, this shop, Shigemori Eishindo, appeared. Seeing Hiroshi Abe waiting in line for ningyo-yaki made me crave it, and since it was within walking distance, I decided to go. Ningyocho is synonymous with ningyo-yaki, but there are only two shops left that specialize in it. Only "Itakuraya" and "Shigemori Eishindo" are continuing the tradition of ningyo-yaki in Ningyocho. I went around 1:30 PM on a Saturday, and there were about 3-4 groups of people. The display case was mostly filled with boxes of ningyo-yaki, but they also sold them individually, so I bought 4 pieces (130 yen each) to try. Although eating while walking is tempting, I ate them at home. The faces of the ningyo-yaki are the Seven Lucky Gods. It's exciting that each ningyo-yaki has a different face. It's like when you buy a card pack and don't get any duplicates, you know? (Does that feeling come across? lol) The skin is quite thin, but in return, there's a lot of filling✨ The filling is smooth bean paste, and the sweetness is quite subdued, so even though there's a lot of it, it doesn't make you feel sick, and you can eat it without stopping. I finished them while feeling grateful to the Seven Lucky Gods. I hope this year will be a good one.

This long-standing shop specializes in take-out ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes). Last time I came on a Sunday, there was a line, but on a weekday around 2 p.m., I was able to buy them without waiting. After eating their ningyo-yaki, my whole idea of what ningyo-yaki could be changed! They are truly delicious. I haven't encountered any ningyo-yaki that surpasses these. Both the tsubo-yaki (pot-baked cakes) and the ningyo-yaki are generously filled with sweet bean paste. I think it's a flavor that people of all ages will love. The staff are also friendly and nice. I'll visit again after praying at Suitengu Shrine!

I went to buy ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes) and luxurious senbei (rice crackers) as souvenirs after a long time. The purchase flow has been streamlined considerably, and the payment process was quite smooth! I could use electronic money for most of the purchase. I bought the tsubo-yaki (with coarse sweet bean paste) and the Seven Lucky Gods (with smooth sweet bean paste), and the volume of the sweet bean paste was satisfying, and it was delicious as expected. The castella-yaki (sponge cake) without any filling was also a great value at around 350 yen for about 10 pieces! I will definitely buy this to take home.

You can buy ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes) and bean snacks here, located in front of Suitengumae Station. I went on a weekday evening, so there wasn't a line, and there were a few customers. This time, I bought ningyo-yaki with smooth red bean paste and ayu-yaki (sweetfish-shaped cakes) with white bean paste because I wanted to eat them right away. The staff immediately put them in a paper bag for easy eating. I finished both in about two bites. The filling was plentiful and really delicious.
