I visited for lunch on a weekday. This restaurant is known for its delicious soup curry, located in the backstreets behind Shinjuku Sanchome Station. I ordered the chicken from the weekday lunch-only special lunch plate (¥1,200). You can choose from four different soup types. I had previously chosen the standard soup at another location, so this time I opted for "Black," a blend with pork bone broth. The curry was topped with eight colorful vegetables and a boiled egg, and came with rice, salad, and a drink, making it a luxurious meal. The soup itself wasn't actually black, and the flavor wasn't as bitter as I imagined. It was a rich and spicy soup with a strong pork bone broth flavor. The chicken and vegetable broth also added depth, making it addictive. The vegetables were also unique, with ingredients like young corn and string beans that you don't often see at other places. It was like a treasure hunt!
I ordered the bone-in chicken soup curry for ¥1480 and it was delicious! The chicken was incredibly tender and easily shredded with a spoon. The burdock root and potatoes were also delicious. Could they have been from Hokkaido? The turmeric rice was also great. I highly recommend this dish. The female staff member was very friendly. A large male staff member asked, "Just you?" in a very casual way. I thought, "Are we friends?" The air conditioner was covered in dust and the walls were greasy. Perhaps they could have a cleaning day once a year. It seems like they don't clean regularly, so it would be nice if the interior was cleaner and more stylish. The soup curry illustrations on the wall were very nice.
This was my first time trying soup curry! I've heard that the famous Dominica is often crowded, but I was able to get in without waiting! It was around 8 pm on a weekday. The curry was packed with vegetables, so it was a healthy meal. I got the red soup, but it has garlic chips in it, so if you're sensitive to garlic, I recommend trying a different soup!
On a weekday evening, with a group of 3, we waited for 15 minutes. The restaurant is tucked away in a back alley of Shinjuku's bustling entertainment district, hidden in a basement. It has a decent number of seats and the atmosphere is quite peaceful. I don't usually eat soup curry, but it's a popular choice here. You choose your menu first, then select from four different soup bases and decide on the spice level. You can also add toppings. There were so many options, it was hard to choose! ✨ ◯ Chicken Soup Curry, Rich Yellow (¥1364) + Lotus Root The large, tender chicken leg was a real treat, and the rich yellow base is made with coconut milk added to the yellow base for extra richness. ◯ Braised Pork Curry, Black (¥1450) The black base is a rich and creamy pork bone broth. It came with a generous amount of braised pork. ◯ Vegetable Soup Curry, Red (¥1264) + Chicken Meatballs This curry was packed with vegetables, perfect for anyone lacking fiber! 😂
This is a Sapporo-originated soup curry restaurant located in Shinjuku Sanchome. It's in the basement, so you have to go down the stairs to enter. I ordered the boneless chicken soup curry salad set with aザンギ (deep-fried chicken) topping. Theザンギ, which I added on a whim, was surprisingly delicious. The curry itself was very much like a typical soup curry, with a thin, watery consistency. It was very well-made and the flavor itself was something most people would enjoy, but the thin consistency might be a matter of preference. Some people might find it delicious, while others might not find it the kind of soup curry they were looking for. However, even if you fall into the latter category, you won't regret trying it.
